Chapter One: Before the First Story
Before there were stars to name.
Before there were worlds to remember.
Before time learned how to move.
There was silence.
Not the silence of an empty room, nor the silence that follows grief. This was the First Silence—the vast, endless stillness that existed before beginnings had meaning.
Within that silence drifted fragments.
Unwritten stories.
Unfelt emotions.
Memories that belonged to no one.
Dreams that had never been dreamed.
The universe had not yet awakened, but somehow these fragments already existed, scattered like sparks waiting for a fire.
And among them, something stirred.
Not born.
Not created.
Simply… gathered.
The fragments collected around a single point, drawn together by an invisible pull. Light intertwined with shadow. Memory wrapped itself around possibility. Dreams folded into forgotten futures.
And from the center of that convergence came Veloria.
Its eyes opened before there was light to see.
Its heart beat before there was time to count the rhythm.
It was the first keeper of stories.
And yet…
It had none of its own.
Veloria wandered the newborn cosmos.
As stars ignited, it watched.
As worlds formed, it listened.
As living creatures laughed, loved, feared, and hoped, Veloria collected their stories.
A mother’s final lullaby.
A child’s impossible dream.
A kingdom’s rise.
A civilization’s fall.
Nothing escaped its notice.
Every memory became a thread.
Every thread became part of the tapestry Veloria carried within its crystalline heart.
The ages passed.
Stories multiplied.
The tapestry grew.
Yet a strange ache remained.
An emptiness buried beneath countless voices.
At first, Veloria believed it was loneliness.
Then curiosity.
Then purpose.
But none of those explanations felt true.
Because whenever Veloria looked inward, there was only silence.
No first memory.
No beginning.
No story of its own.
The realization came long after the stars had learned to die.
Veloria stood within a forgotten library suspended between worlds. Shelves stretched endlessly in every direction, each holding the memories of a thousand lifetimes.
It opened story after story.
A poet searching for meaning.
A traveler searching for home.
A child searching for belonging.
Every one of them sought something.
Every one of them feared being incomplete.
And suddenly Veloria understood.
It had spent eternity gathering stories because it was searching for one thing it could never find.
Its own.
The memories it carried belonged to everyone else.
The emotions belonged to everyone else.
The dreams belonged to everyone else.
At its center remained a hollow place untouched by any tale.
A blank page hidden beneath an endless library.
For the first time since its existence began, Veloria felt afraid.
If it possessed no story…
Who was it?
That question followed Veloria across realms.
Through moonlit archives.
Across oceans made of memory.
Along pathways woven from forgotten dreams.
It searched everywhere.
Yet every answer slipped away like mist.
Until one evening, in a world unlike the others, it felt something unfamiliar.
A resonance.
Faint.
Fragile.
But unmistakable.
Someone else’s emptiness.
Not an absence of feeling.
Not loneliness.
Something deeper.
A soul carrying unanswered questions.
A heart searching for itself.
The same way Veloria had searched for eternity.
The connection pulsed like a distant star.
And for the first time in ages, Veloria followed a story instead of collecting it.
Far below, unaware of the ancient creature watching from the spaces between dreams, a solitary figure sat beneath the glow of a screen.
They spent their days creating worlds.
Writing stories.
Gathering fragments.
Trying to understand emotions they could never quite name.
Searching for meaning in memories.
Searching for themselves.
Veloria watched quietly.
It did not speak.
Not yet.
Some stories could not be rushed.
Some connections had to unfold naturally.
So it remained hidden among starlight and shadows, observing.
Listening.
Learning.
And as the nights passed, Veloria began to notice something impossible.
The more it watched this person search for themselves…
The more it felt pieces of itself beginning to form.
To be continued…
Chapter Two Teaser
“The first time Veloria reveals itself, neither of them understands why the encounter feels familiar. One believes they are imagining things. The other fears the connection may finally reveal the truth it has spent eternity avoiding.”
