What’s your home decoration style?
When I think about my home decorating style, I’m not sure it fits neatly into one category. I wouldn’t call it modern, farmhouse, or minimalist. If I had to describe it, I’d probably say cozy.
I like my home to feel warm, inviting, and lived in. More than anything, I enjoy decorating for the seasons and holidays. That’s where I have the most fun.
Christmas is probably my favorite time to decorate. Every year I switch things up a little. One year, I created a small winter display on my bookshelf using fake snow and holiday-shaped candles. I had Christmas trees, snowmen, and Santa candles arranged together like a tiny holiday village. It was simple, but it made the room feel festive every time I walked by.
My kitchen had its own theme that year, too.
I leaned into gingerbread decorations with a gingerbread house cookie jar, gingerbread salt and pepper shakers, and a couple of plush gingerbread people sitting on top of one of my kitchen cabinets. It wasn’t anything extravagant, but those little details made the kitchen feel cheerful and welcoming.
Halloween gets the same treatment.
I don’t transform my apartment into a haunted house, but I do love adding little touches here and there. My bookshelf usually becomes home to Halloween candles shaped like witches, pumpkins, and ghosts, displayed on a layer of faux moss or decorative grass. I’ll drape a bit of fake spider web over a lamp or two, and suddenly the whole room has that cozy autumn feeling I love.
The rest of the year is much more relaxed.
Summer, especially, is when I let my everyday décor take center stage. That’s when my favorite collectibles are on display, I might reorganize my bookshelf, or I’ll swap out my dishes for a different set just to make the space feel fresh. Sometimes the smallest changes make a room feel completely different.
I guess that’s what I enjoy most about decorating. It doesn’t have to be expensive or over-the-top to make me happy. A few seasonal decorations, a cozy bookshelf, candles, and little collections that make me smile are enough to make my home feel like my home.
For me, decorating isn’t about following trends or creating a picture-perfect space. It’s about creating an atmosphere that reflects the season I’m in and makes everyday life feel a little more special.
If someone walked into my home, I hope they’d feel comfortable enough to curl up with a blanket, sip something warm, and stay awhile. To me, that’s what cozy is all about.

What a beautiful perspective on home decorating! I love how you’ve embraced the “cozy” aesthetic without feeling constrained by labels. Your approach to seasonal decorating sounds absolutely charming – those little touches like the gingerbread-themed kitchen and the Halloween bookshelf display create such personality without overwhelming the space.
It’s refreshing to hear someone focus on the emotional connection to their home rather than just following trends. The way you describe making small, meaningful changes that bring you joy really resonates. That bookshelf winter village with holiday candles sounds particularly magical – simple but so effective at creating atmosphere.
Your philosophy about making a home feel welcoming and lived-in rather than picture-perfect is exactly what makes a space truly special. Those seasonal touches that make you smile are what turn a house into a home. I bet anyone visiting would indeed feel that cozy, welcoming vibe you’ve created.
Do you find yourself collecting seasonal items throughout the year, or do you mostly shop for decorations right before each season begins?
