If Emperor Palpatine announced open elections for a new Emperor and nominated Darth Vader, my choice for a challenger would be Ahsoka Tano.
While Darth Vader is one of my favorite Star Wars characters, I wouldn’t choose him to rule the galaxy. What makes Vader such a compelling character is his tragic story. He loved deeply, wanted to protect the people he cared about, and was willing to do anything to keep them safe. Unfortunately, his fear of loss led him down a path that ultimately consumed him.
Ahsoka represents something different.
She understands pain, loss, betrayal, and the weight of responsibility. She walked away from the Jedi Order when it no longer aligned with her beliefs, yet she never allowed bitterness to define who she was. She forged her own path, learning from both the successes and failures of those who came before her.
What I admire most about Ahsoka is that she doesn’t blindly follow rules, but she also doesn’t seek power for its own sake. She values compassion, loyalty, and doing what is right, even when it’s difficult. She understands that emotions are part of being human, yet she doesn’t allow them to control her decisions.
If the galaxy needed a leader, I would choose someone who understands both the light and the darkness but chooses hope anyway.
My vote goes to Ahsoka Tano.

When we were slogging our way through watching The Clone Wars animated series (back before we let our subscription lapse because The Mouse did some stupid things, in our eyes), I couldn’t stand Ahsoka or Anakin whatsoever, for the first 4 seasons or so. And then, all of a sudden, this show became REAL, and she started becoming fully-fleshed out and conflicted and a real character, and started standing up to Anakin’s crap, and following her intuition and accepting responsibility for her own actions. It turns out I really like Ahsoka. We haven’t watched the other series yet, mostly because we don’t have The Mouse subscription anymore.

That moment where a character goes from “I can’t stand them” to “oh… I get it now” is always interesting to me. It says a lot about how much storytelling can change when the writing finally lets them breathe. I get what you mean about her becoming more fully realized as the series goes on.
