When I think about ambitious DIY projects, one stands out above the rest: my son’s birth year weather crochet blanket. This wasn’t about making small squares or simple patterns—it’s one massive blanket, crocheted row by row, where each row represents a new day of his birth year and the weather temperature on that day.
I had to figure out the weather for every single day, decide on yarn colors to represent the temperature, and translate that into stitches across a blanket that would grow bigger and bigger with each day. Every row was a new challenge, a new decision, a new chance to bring his first year to life in yarn.
Then life threw me a curveball. While I was away helping my parents during a tough winter, my home was left unattended—and mice got into my project. Hours of work, carefully planned and crocheted, were ruined. I had to start over.
