Chapter 2-Into the FrostLight
The clearing felt calm after the spiral had finally settled in my chest. Warm and cool pulses hummed steadily, alive and balanced. Aeris perched lightly on my shoulder, wings quivering slightly, sending faint icy mist curling along my arms and the edges of the pool. Despite his tiny size, his presence anchored the spiral, steadying the magic that now seemed inseparable from him.
Pickles chirped happily at my feet, tail curling in proud little loops. He bounced toward me, but couldn’t reach my hand without a little lift, so I scooped him up briefly. He squeaked triumphantly, nudging my palm, clearly celebrating—and I couldn’t help but smile. He was close, helping however he could, but the deep, steady pulse in my chest belonged to Aeris.
Between two moonlit trees, a flicker of light shimmered—thin, elusive, almost like a reflection of the veil. My chest hummed in recognition. Someone—or something—was waiting.
The petals lifted, forming a delicate arc toward the shimmer. I glanced at Aeris. His gaze was steady, unwavering. His tiny wings brushed against my cheek, a subtle reminder: I could trust myself. I could trust him. Pickles chirped again in my palm, tail flicking encouragingly. I wasn’t alone. Not with either of them.
I stepped forward carefully. The spiral pulsed in response, coiling around Aeris’s magic like a protective thread. Pickles chirped again, perched lightly in my hand, playful and supportive, while Aeris guided the rhythm at the core of the magic.
The light shimmered again, and I thought I saw a shadow moving within it. Not the guardian. Not yet. But close enough to make my pulse quicken.
I swallowed and whispered, almost to myself, “Okay… let’s see what you want.”
The forest held its breath. The spiral hummed in harmony with Aeris, and Pickles chirped beside me. Together, the three of us stepped toward the shimmer—and into the first question of this new arc.

I’m loving it
