Chapter One-Into the FrostLight
Light spilled across the clearing, soft and welcoming, the colors shifting like water remembering sunlight. The spiral inside me pulsed steadily, warm and cool in perfect balance. Petals twirled in gentle spirals around me, following the rhythm of my chest.
Pickles leapt from my hand to my shoulder, chirping proudly. Aeris pressed close, wings half-unfurled, the faint mist of frost curling along the edges of the pool and petals. His calm presence steadied the spiral in my chest, a quiet counterpoint to the lively, flickering magic I had learned to control.
A ripple moved across the pool—subtle, shadowed, twisting in patterns that mirrored doubt and hesitation. My chest flickered at the sight.
“I… I can face this,” I whispered. Aeris pressed closer, the icy warmth of his breath steadying me. Pickles chirped encouragingly.
I closed my eyes, letting the spiral merge fully with Aeris’ steady frost. I accepted the shadow as part of myself, flowing through it rather than fighting. Slowly, the shadow dissolved. The petals spun in perfect harmony. The pool shimmered with quiet approval.
At the edge of the clearing, a faint shimmer flickered. Not a doorway yet, not the guardian fully revealed—but a soft, patient presence, hinting at something waiting beyond this place.
I breathed deeply, chest pulsing strong and steady. “I understand,” I whispered. “I’m ready.”
The clearing seemed to exhale around us. Pickles chirped again, tail curling proudly, and Aeris leaned against me, cool and steadfast. The spiral pulsed in time with the forest, alive and balanced. Somewhere beyond the trees, the shimmer hinted that the next adventure had already begun.
